Dinners in Pakistan and North India often have just one main course. This main course (or curry, to keep things simple) might be as simple as a dal or as complex as a korma. In South Asian cuisine, the main course is typically served with a carbohydrate like roti, rice, or naan.

  • You can serve the main course with flatbread or basmati rice if it contains a lot of sauce or “curry.”
  • Flatbread like naan, roti, or paratha are generally required with curries that are on the “dryer” side.
  • You can serve yogurt or raita on the side if the main course is a rice dish like biryani.

Along with the supper, you can also serve small sides like chopped vegetables, raita, achar, or chutney.
