My blog had the good fortune to reach the Saveur Blog Awards finalist round in the category of most creative dinner recipes a few years ago. The idea that dinner recipes make up the majority of the recipes on my site had never occurred to me before. I understood that my preferences as a Pakistani-American are reflected in this. Although I’m more American than Pakistani in many ways, I find that South Asian main dishes are the world’s most gratifying dinners.
The top 10+ supper recipes from my blog are collected in this roundup. It includes a broad variety of recipes, such as vegetarian foods, rice dishes, chicken recipes, and recipes for meat. Most of them are one-pot, quick, and simple recipes that don’t call for complicated methods or uncommon materials.
WHAT IS AN INDIAN DINNER TYPICALLY?
Dinners in Pakistan and North India often have just one main course. This main course (or curry, to keep things simple) might be as simple as a dal or as complex as a korma. In South Asian cuisine, the main course is typically served with a carbohydrate like roti, rice, or naan.
- You can serve the main course with flatbread or basmati rice if it contains a lot of sauce or “curry.”
- Flatbread like naan, roti, or paratha are generally required with curries that are on the “dryer” side.
- You can serve yogurt or raita on the side if the main course is a rice dish like biryani.
Along with the supper, you can also serve small sides like chopped vegetables, raita, achar, or chutney.
SERVING SUGGESTIONS FOR THESE DINNER RECIPES:
These dishes can be served with roti, naan, paratha, or basmati rice to create entire dinners. However, alternative flatbreads like pita bread or tortillas can be used in place of roti or naan. Any type of rice may be substituted for basmati rice.
